Captona Closes Equity Investment With Nexamp in Large Community Solar Portfolio

Captona LLC, a North American investment firm, has announced its latest preferred equity investment in partnership with Nexamp, a fully-integrated distributed generation and community solar company.

The investment announced October 13 support the financing of 55 MW of solar generation and 5 MWh of battery storage capacity across 10 projects in four states (Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York). The transaction marks the next phase in Captona’s continued innovation of its preferred-equity solution, highlighting the team’s ability to deploy capital with flexibility and scale.

Captona has been a market leader since rolling out its preferred equity structure in 2023. Partnering with an industry-leading solar developer in Nexamp represents a step forward in Captona’s preferred equity program and demonstrates the trust it has built with industry leaders.

“We’re proud to invest in projects delivered by a best-in-class company like Nexamp, demonstrating Captona’s ability to meet the evolving needs of our partners,” said Izzet Bensusan, CEO and founder of Captona. “As power demand continues to accelerate, we’re further scaling our investments to support our partners and the development of critical energy infrastructure.”

“Meeting rising energy demand requires us to bring new generation online quickly, and that takes strong, flexible partnerships across the industry,” said Anjali Patel, vice president of Capital Markets & Strategy at Nexamp. “This investment from Captona will help advance a diverse portfolio of solar and storage projects that can deliver meaningful benefits to individuals and communities—from greater access to local clean energy to stronger, more resilient power systems.”

Kirkland & Ellis LLP served as legal advisor to Captona, while Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP served as legal advisors to Nexamp in connection with the transaction.

Captona is a leading North America-focused energy transition investment firm with close to $3.5 billion in enterprise value, Captona owns and operates more than 50 energy generation projects, with a focus on storage, solar, microgrids, fuel cell, and renewable natural gas technologies.

Nexamp provides solar and storage solutions. The company has almost 1.5 GW of renewable energy-generating assets currently in operation and several more gigawatts under construction or in development.
