Obama to Nominate LaFleur as FERC Commissioner

On May 1, President Obama announced his intention to nominate Cheryl A. LaFleur for a second term as commissioner at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

LaFleur was first nominated to serve as a member of FERC in 2010. She became the acting chairman in November 2013 following Jon Wellinghoff’s resignation. Her term is slated to end next month.

“I am very honored to be nominated for a second term at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. If confirmed, I look forward to continuing to work with the wonderful team at FERC on the important energy issues facing our nation. I would like to thank President Obama for nominating me, and look forward to working with the Senate as they consider my nomination,” LaFleur said.

Prior to joining the Commission, LaFleur had more than 20 years’ experience in the electric and natural gas industry. She served as executive vice president and acting CEO of National Grid USA, responsible for the delivery of electricity to 3.4 million customers in the Northeast. Her previous positions at National Grid USA and its predecessor—New England Electric System—included chief operating officer, president of the New England distribution companies, and general counsel. She led major efforts to improve reliability and employee safety. Earlier in her career, she was responsible for leading conservation and demand response programs for customers.
