(AUSTIN, Texas) Jan. 19, 2011 – SAIC Energy, Environment, & Infrastructure LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), welcomes Steven Root as an assistant vice president in its smart grid division. Root has more than two decades of management, consulting, and business development experience in all facets of the electric and gas industries.
Prior to joining SAIC, Root served as the director of North American utilities at Bentley Systems, a large private engineering software provider. He has also held senior management positions at Cook-Hurlbert, Inc., Indus International, Inc., Energy Systems Group, LLC, and Strategic Resource Solutions (Progress Energy). With a focus on the utility industry, Root brings expertise regarding decision support solutions, business and data process automation, enterprise work and asset management, engineering systems integration, and geospatial systems.

Root has a Bachelor of Science in engineering and computer science from the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
