Doosan Škoda Power to upgrade the heating plant at the Opatovice CHP

Pilsen (08/06/2019) – Doosan Škoda Power, a Czech manufacturer and supplier of steam turbines and components for power-generating operations, has won a contract to upgrade the TG5 heating plant at the Opatovice Power Station, which supplies heat to several thousand households in the north-east region of the Czech Republic.

Doosan Škoda Power will supply a modernized 65MW back-pressure steam turbine including all accessories such as control systems, basic heating water heaters, low-pressure regenerative system, feed water heating system, oil system, interconnecting piping, high-pressure hydraulic system, field instrumentation, etc.

“The overhaul of the entire TG5 heating plant was a challenge for us. In addition to delivering new components, we will have to refurbish a part of the existing set for technical reasons and we need to complete all the work before the heating season begins,” says Adam Bajer, head of the Retrofit and Modernization Department at Doosan Škoda Power.

“The modernization of the steam turbine will significantly increase the efficiency of cogeneration, says Stanislav Ondráček, member of the Supervisory Board at EOP, adding that the project is one of the key power plant modernization projects that will ultimately contribute to improved environmental conditions in the region.

EOP is a combined heat and power station serving more than 62,000 users in the north-east region of the Czech Republic. The modernization of the plant will take place during the planned shutdown in 2020 and the plant will be put into permanent operation before the start of the heating season in autumn 2020.
