CMT cladding tower for giant membrane walls
The Polish company FAKOP – world-renowned for high-quality steam boilers for more than a hundred years – uses a towering CMT cladding system from Austrian welding technology specialist Fronius for the cladding of twelve-meter-high membrane walls. The plant has two welding elevators and can accommodate two huge membrane walls, each 1.6 meters wide.
Welding is performed with horizontal oscillation from top to bottom in the drop position (PG). Each of the two elevator platforms is equipped with CMT welding technology and has an intuitive touch-screen HMI system control, an ArcView camera including a monitor, two CMT torches, and a joystick for their fine adjustment.
Deposition rate below 3 %
All torches are water-cooled, and the torch temperature strongly influences the deposition rate. To ensure not to exceed the 3 % limit under any circumstances, it must be neither too hot nor too cold and requires precise regulation by the plant’s cooling system.
WeldCube records all welding data
A real highlight of the Fronius cladding system is the WeldCube welding data management software, which records all parameters. Significant deviations indicate necessary maintenance work, which can be planned according to the stored data.
The safety of the system operators is ensured by fume extractors on each torch and a dark-red tinted safety curtain that seals off both elevator platforms, extends over the entire height of the system and protects the welding operators from UV radiation.
