Dust-Repelling Coating for Solar Thermal Mirrors

Germany-based solar mirror maker Flabeg has developed an anti-soiling coating for solar mirrors used in solar thermal power plant applications, duraGLARE, which can repel dust and sand from the surface of mirrors. Dirt on mirrors can be reduced up to 50% compared with panels that are not coated, the company claims. As well as an increase in reflection, the enhanced performance of the collectors means that the effective solar area can also be made smaller, and this would cut the need for additional collectors and their components.
