RWE and carbonclean investigate thermal energy storage for power plants

The German electrical utility RWE Power AG and Carbon-Clean Technologies GmbH (“carbonclean”) are investigating the potential of an innovative energy storage system for power and heat generation in a feasibility study. carbonclean is an energy storage startup based in Cologne, Germany. The carbonclean technology is a high- temperature thermal storage system, which stores large quantities of electrical energy in the form of heat, and delivers this energy on demand to the power plant process.
This enables thermal power plants to better meet their role as flexible partners in an energy mix which is increasingly based on renewables.
