EPSA Condemns Capitol Violence, Urges Peaceful Transfer of Power

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 6, 2021) – The head of the Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA), the trade association representing competitive power suppliers, today condemned armed violence at the nation’s Capitol. Todd A. Snitchler, EPSA’s president and CEO, released the following statement:

“The peaceful transfer of power is the cornerstone of our democracy. At EPSA we condemn today’s violence at our nation’s Capitol and stand with law enforcement officials and all those who are dedicated to protecting our peaceful political process. The violent actions taken today by some to disrupt the business of our elected officials to certify the election results have no place in America.

“EPSA supports the efforts of Capitol Police and other law enforcement to restore order and allow the process of certifying the election and moving ahead with the duties of governing to continue. Violence in response to an election outcome is simply never acceptable. Those who broke the law today should be held fully responsible for their actions.

“The images and reports from today’s shocking actions do nothing but undermine confidence in our Republic – and make America look less like the ‘City on a Hill’ and more like the nations who do not have the freedoms assured by our laws and the Constitution.

“While we may disagree on certain policies or priorities, we are proud to work with all members of Congress and their dedicated staff as they strive to find the best outcomes for all Americans.

“America is a great nation. Our republic is a model for all. We can and must once again be a beacon of hope and leadership in the world.”
