City of Mississauga Bypasses the Grid with Clear Blue Technologies’ Smart Off-Grid Lighting

TORONTO, March 20, 2019 — Clear Blue Technologies International Inc. (“Clear Blue” or “the Company”) (TSXV: CBLU), the Smart Off-Grid™ company, today announced the installation of its Smart Off-Grid Illumient lighting systems in the City of Mississauga, Ontario.

The project in Duncairn Downs Park, located in the Erin Mills Community, was completed late last year.  It was initiated to support the Green Pillar of the City’s Strategic Plan, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and operating costs.  A successful financial and green benefit, measured by its ability to meet these goals, will pave the way for a wider rollout of similar technologies in many areas across the City and may include the powering of Internet of Things devices on the same poles, as part of the City’s Smart City initiative.

To date, Clear Blue’s Illumient lighting systems have been installed in over 40 locations across 18 municipalities in Ontario, including Bloor Street West.  It represents a growing domestic market for the Company, with revenue from sales in the province seeing a 515% increase in 2018, compared year-over-year to 2017.  Overall, the global solar street lighting market is projected to reach $17.78 billion (USD) in revenue by 2024, a CAGR of 23.23% from 2016 to 2024.i

Clear Blue’s Smart Off-Grid remote management, monitoring and control with predictive weather analysis and integrated motion sensors offers an unprecedented level of flexibility and control over the operation of lighting systems.  This allows for active management of the lights by clients with Clear Blue providing oversight and guidance.

“We are pleased that the City of Mississauga chose our Smart Off-Grid Illumient lighting systems for this installation,” said Miriam Tuerk, CEO and co-founder of Clear Blue.  “We are also glad to support City personnel as they utilize our Illumience management system to remotely control and manage the lights.  With the long winter nights and short daylight hours in wintertime in Ontario, Smart Off-Grid is the critical factor in ensuring the lights come on as needed regardless of the time of year or climate.”

Illumient lighting systems include a light pole, LED street light, solar panel, battery, smart controller, an integrated wireless communications network, and the Illumience cloud-based power management software.  Motion sensors on the light poles, the Illumience predictive weather analysis capabilities, and the ability to change lighting profiles online are used to preserve battery power and ensure lighting service in all seasons of the year, while reducing maintenance and installation costs by up to 80 percent.
