Accessing New Markets via Acquisition

In June this year, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHIC) completed the acquisition of U.S. company ACT Independent Turbo Services, Inc.

ACT, now operating under the new name of Doosan Turbomachinery Services, was founded in 1996, and its head office is in Houston, Texas, USA. The company presents itself on the market as one of the main providers of complex repair solutions and core component service solutions for heavy-duty gas turbines.

The company’s production facilities comprises two new state-of-the-art halls, as well as an office building, covering an area of nearly 9,300 m2. One production hall is fitted out for repairs, disassembly, assembly and rotor balancing; the other is equipped with state-of-the-art welding technology, special thermal spraying, heat treatment and moving blades material and dimension checks. The scope of repairs also includes revisions and renovations of stator components and combustion chambers.

This acquisition enables DHIC to instantly access the gas turbine market in the United States, and at the same time contribute significantly to the strategic development of their own Doosan-brand gas turbines.

Since Doosan Škoda Power engage through their Service Department in similar business activities as DTS, Jiří Šmondrk, Chief Executive Officer; together with Stanislav Šnejdar, Head of the Service Department; Jan Růžička, Head of Strategy; and Chong Whie Cho, Business Associate Manager visited DTS in Houston on 26th and 27th September, so that both groups that are integrated in the TG BG division could get to know each other in more detail within their production programmes.

Thanks to the acquisition of DTS, possibilities of joint collaborations within steam and gas turbine services open up for Doosan Škoda Power. There is potential in the production of new unbladed gas turbine rotors for DTS, as well as the expansion of both companies’ joint business portfolio in the service of steam turbines, originally produced by Toshiba or GE, especially the GE D11 model.
