ACORE Releases Status Report on Renewables by State

A new report from the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) offers a state-by-state look at key developments that have shaped the renewable energy landscape, including information and planned capacity, markets, economic developments, resource potential, and policy.

ACORE said in a statement last week that the report, Renewable Energy in the 50 States, is a "living" document that will continue to evolve with quarterly updates and periodic revision. According to the industry group, the U.S. renewable market was valued at between $15 billion and $20 billion in 2009, as measured by project financings.

“Despite the continuing financial crisis and related recession which slowed market growth, the U.S. has experienced a five-year renewable energy market growth rate of 24%, with much of that progress happening at the state and municipal levels," said Michael Eckhart, ACORE president.

ACORE’s director, National & Regional Outreach, Heidi VanGenderen, said that renewables had seen much progress over the past five years, and most had occurred at state and local levels. "The progress that has been made is uneven, however, and differs significantly state to state. The uneven nature results from a number of factors: differing renewable resources; the viability of commercial scale deployment of these differing renewable resources; and, the policies that exist within each state to name a key few. I think the public and states will be interested to note the progress of renewables in our country, state-by-state," she said.
