Curtiss-Wright Signs Exclusive Agreement with APS to Commercialize Equipment Anomaly Detection Technology

BREA, CA – January 31, 2020 Curtiss-Wright Corporation announced today it has signed an exclusive agreement with Arizona Public Service Company (APS) to commercialize APS’s equipment anomaly detection (EAD) technology.

APS’s EAD technology uses machine learning to detect anomalies in plant equipment and systems, allowing operators to improve performance and prevent failures. “This technology, developed by APS employees at Palo Verde, demonstrates the ingenuity and innovation our people bring to the workplace every day,” said Jack Cadogan, APS Senior Vice President, Site Operations for the Palo Verde Generating Station, the nation’s largest nuclear power plant. “The value of this technology is that it identifies potential issues in important components so they can be addressed before a problem arises. It cuts costs, increases efficiency and brings value to any operation that depends on sophisticated technology.”

Curtiss-Wright will add the EAD technology to its FAMOS suite of thermal plant performance and condition monitoring platforms. The EAD technology will enhance Curtiss-Wright’s portfolio of digital capabilities and product offerings that support plant modernization and digitalization. As part of the agreement with APS, Curtiss-Wright will deliver a commercialized digital offering in 2020.

“APS and Palo Verde have long been leaders in applying new, innovative technology to improve their plant operations and reliability.  We are excited by the opportunity to offer this plant-proven technology to our customers in the power generation industry,” said Kurt Mitchell, Vice President and General Manager of the Curtiss-Wright’s Nuclear Division.
