Alstom To Supply a Steam Tail for the North Battleford Combined Cycle Project in Saskatchewan, Canada

Kiewit Corporation, one of the largest construction and engineering firms in North America, has selected Alstom equipment that will add 100 MW of steam generated power to a new natural-gas-fired combined cycle power plant being built in Saskatchewan, central Canada. The equipment will be used in a new power plant developed and owned by Northland Power of Toronto that is to deliver baseload power to support Saskatchewan’s continued growth.

The contract  includes the supply of a steam tail (a 100 MW steam turbine, a generator and a Heat Recovery Steam Generator, or ‘HRSG’) and Alstom’s Alspa 6 turbine control system. The steam tail will bring the plant’s total power output to 285 MW.

The natural-gas-fired combined cycle plant will be built near North Battleford, Saskatchewan, about 150 km northwest of Saskatoon. All power produced by the plant will be sold under the PPA to SaskPower. Construction is expected to begin in July 2010. The plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2013.
