Koppers Acquires Enerco Energy Services to Provide Comprehensive Solution Across Utility Pole Lifecycle

AUGUST 19, 2021 — Koppers recently acquired Enerco Energy Services, Inc., a provider of asset management services for the electric utility industry. Through the acquisition, Koppers becomes the only pole inspection company in the U.S. that treats and services utility poles throughout the product’s lifecycle. Koppers manufactures and disposes of poles, develops and manufactures wood treatment chemicals and now also provides full-service maintenance through Koppers Utility Services (KUS).

“Together with Enerco, we can deliver greater value to our customers and stakeholders by providing a full spectrum of end-to-end solutions for utility products and services,” said Leroy Ball, President and Chief Executive Officer, Koppers. “Furthermore, the addition of this team and customer base will propel our recently launched KUS business forward, setting the stage for continued growth opportunities.”

In addition to utility pole maintenance services, offerings include padmount equipment maintenance, pole painting and substation inspection services to large and small investor-owned, cooperative and municipal utilities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Why: Koppers’ 2019 inaugural Idea Summit resulted in an employee-driven concept to create a business that would go beyond manufacturing utility poles to also offer pole inspections and maintenance. Koppers saw this as an opportunity to provide their customers a valuable solution via a comprehensive pole maintenance program. Adding Enerco’s services completes Koppers end-to-end value package for utility products and services customers.
