EDP Renewables’ Quilt Block Wind Farm Celebrates Five Years of Renewable Energy Production in Lafayette County, Wisconsin

Darlington, Wisconsin, July, 20 2022 – EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA), a leading renewable energy company in North America, announces the fifth anniversary celebration of the Quilt Block Wind Farm in Darlington, Wisconsin. The Quilt Block project has an installed capacity of 98 megawatts (MW), which is the equivalent of powering more than 36,000 average Wisconsin homes. The wind farm has also provided significant economic and environmental benefits for Lafayette County and the state of Wisconsin and contributes to the state’s 100 percent carbon-free energy goal by 2050.

Quilt Block created 100 full-time equivalent jobs during construction and currently employs 12 permanent team members who operate and perform regular maintenance on the site. Renewable energy projects benefit Wisconsin’s economy, with Quilt Block contributing an estimated $9.7 million worth of spending within 50 miles of the project. Local businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and stores also benefit from increased foot traffic due to the project’s development.

In addition to local investments, Quilt Block has paid more than $6.3 million to landowners through land lease payments and disbursed more than $540,000 to local governments, which go toward enhancing schools, roads, infrastructure, and other essential services. The wind farm also saves more than 174 million gallons of water each year, which is the amount of water that would be needed by conventional generation sources to produce the same amount of energy as the wind farm.

“I’m not sure how I got so lucky to be a part of such a great community, but as we celebrate our five years of operation, we want to thank you all for letting us be a part of Lafayette County,” Brodie Dockendorf, Senior Operations Manager – Quilt Block Wind Farm said. “My family and I love it here, and it’s nice to know that when I flip my lights on at home, it’s the power we are generating right here. It’s something we can all be proud to be a part of, and we look forward to a bright future with you.”

In total, EDPR NA has invested an estimated $166.6 million in Wisconsin and remains committed to expanding renewable energy generation in the Badger State.
