MITSUBISHI TO SUPPLY SCR SYSTEMS FOR PETROBRAS’ PRESIDENTE GETULIO VARGAS REFINERY

In December 2008, Sao Paolo-based CBC Indústrias Pesadas S.A., a group company of Japan’s  Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) since 1963, was awarded an EPC contract from Brazilian energy major Petrobras to provide oil-fired boilers for its Presidente Getulio Vargas Refinery in Arucaria, Parana State.

The contract, valued at USD140 million, called for supply of two boilers with steam generating capacity of 300 t/h x 9025 kPa (91 kgf/cm²g) x 485 °C each, with the aim of increasing the plant’s power generating output to support a daily refining capacity of 189,000 barrels.

Under the scope of the contract, CBC is tasked to provide the boilers as well as Selective Catalytic Reduction units (SCRs), ammonia handling systems, economizers, and electrostatic precipitators.

With installation set to begin later this year, CBC plans to employ SCR systems produced by Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (MPSA) of Lake Mary, Florida for the project. Mitsubishi is a world leader in the design and evolution of SCR systems and catalyst technology dating back to the early 1970s.

This will be the first SCR application in Brazil on an oil-fired generating unit. Project completion is planned for the first quarter of 2011.

CBC designs and manufactures integrated boiler systems for a variety of applications including chemical recovery boilers, package boilers, industrial and utility boilers, oil and gas firing boilers, and HRSGs, as well as downstream equipment including economizers, heat exchangers, process vessels and towers, electrostatic precipitators and ancillary equipment.

Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, LTD (Japan).  MPS provides the full spectrum of power generation needs from equipment sales to onsite service.  Headquartered in Lake Mary, Florida, backed by multiple U.S. Manufacturing, Service and Repair centers, MPS is chartered to support market development, sales, contracts, engineering, implementation and field service for power projects throughout the Americas – including gas, steam and combined-cycle power plants, wind and geothermal installations, as well as Combined Heat & Power Plant systems.
