Mitsubishi Awarded Contract to Supply Combined Heat & Power (CHP) Power Plant System to the University of Central Florida

Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (MPS) announced today that it has been awarded the contract to provide its Combined Heat & Power (CHP) Plant System to the University of Central Florida (UCF). The CHP system, powered by Mitsubishi’s 18KU30GSI clean burning natural gas powered reciprocating engine will generate approximately 5.5MW of electrical power to the UCF campus. Integration of an Absorption Chiller that captures engine generated heat provides one of the most fuel efficient cogeneration systems available today. Mitsubishi’s CHP system provides the University of Central Florida multiple benefits including a lower carbon footprint for equivalent power consumed, reduced CO2 emissions, reduced electrical grid demand, lower cost of operation and expanded chilled water production to support campus growth. UCF also invested in a high efficiency emissions control system for the benefit of all campus residents. The new CHP plant is scheduled to begin operations in the fall of 2011.

MPS Engine Director (Stephen Burris) sees this contract award as a validation of Mitsubishi’s longstanding commitment to CHP technology and its comprehensive approach to system engineering in power plant design. This is another great example of the company’s dedicated presence and customer support throughout the Western Hemisphere. “Securing this contract underscores the impeccable reliability and performance of Mitsubishi’s worldwide fleet of CHP  Plant Systems, which now includes 140 similar systems installed or on order, “ Burris said. “It also, I believe, affirms the MPS mission of providing an Americas-based resource for Mitsubishi products, engineering capabilities, project management and U.S. based OEM-quality service.”
