GEA awarded major orders from Morocco and Hong Kong

Bochum, October 04, 2010 – GEA Mechanical Equipment has received 2 major orders for
the delivery of fuel systems for a gas turbine power plant in Morocco and of decanters for
the municipal waste water clarification plant of the mega-zone Hong Kong.

For the expansion of the gas turbine power plant “Kenitra” to the north of the Moroccan
capital Rabat GEA won the order for the delivery of a complete fuel and process water
treatment system. The order volume totals around EUR 7 million and the shipment is
scheduled for May 2011. The power plant is designed as a backup installation for an
existing hydroelectric power plant and to ensure the power supply in the region in months
when precipitation is low. After a construction period of 25 months, the 300 megawatt gas
turbine power plant will go on stream in 2012. Due to the properties of the fuels, the
complete treatment system will be delivered in explosion-proof design. This contract is a
follow-up project for the "Mohammedia" plant successfully delivered in 2008 which was
likewise designed for the end customer “ONE” (Office National de l’Electricité), the staterun
utility company. The contractor of GEA is GE France.

The plant manufacturer ATAL Engineering ordered 14 decanter centrifuges for Hong
Kong’s large-scale waste water clarification plant Stonecutters Island. The first machines
will be delivered at the beginning of 2012. GEA’s decanters will take over the full capacity
of the waste water treatment plant from 2015 onwards. The decisive factor for the award
of the contract was the successful commissioning of the mega waste water treatment
plant Changi in Singapore, in the course of which GEA had installed 30 large decanters by
2007. GEA was also able to present extensive references from municipal waste water
treatment plants like Fremont/Nebraska, Dublin/Ireland and Stuttgart/Germany. The 14
large decanters with their deep pond design ensure high throughput capacities with low
power and polymer consumption. They are therefore capable of easily handling the
sewage sludge dewatering of the planned expansion of the waste water treatment plant capacity from 1.3 to 1.7 million cubic meters per day as well as the upgrade to an
additional biological clarification stage. By this means, the effluent of more than 3.5 million
inhabitants can be disposed of.
