Department of Defense selects Eaton to manufacture sensors for critical naval applications

PITTSBURGH, PA. (Nov. 9, 2021) — Power management company Eaton today announced an agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to manufacture inductive proximity sensors for critical operations across the harshest naval environments.

The U.S. Navy will apply Eaton’s sensors in aircraft shipboard applications and is evaluating additional platforms. The sensors incorporate patented technology developed by BH Technology of Pomona, N.Y., through the DoD Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.

“Inductive proximity sensors and switches represent critical assets aboard virtually every Navy platform,” said Kerry Tingley, vice president and general manager of Eaton’s Industrial Control Division. “Eaton has a long history of helping the federal government ensure mission operability. Our new sensor positions us to help the Department of Defense modernize ships and other critical military assets to achieve greater operating reliability.”

Eaton’s new line of proximity sensors meets the MIL-PRF 24711B standard for shipboard solid-state proximity switches. The sensors are engineered for seamless retrofit and simplified replacement and include features to simplify installation, commissioning, operation, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
