The RES Alliance for Jobs is a coalition of businesses and organizations that support Congressional enactment of a strong federal renewable energy standard (RES). The group’s members include companies and associations representing the wind, solar, biomass, waste-to-energy and hydro power business lines. The Alliance seeks to demonstrate that a strong RES would create sustainable growth in the renewable energy industries, enabling manufacturers to invest billions of dollars in the U.S. economy and create hundreds of thousands of high-quality American jobs that cannot be outsourced.
The diverse renewable energy technology membership of The Alliance enables the businesses and organizations of various industries to come together and present a united front in supporting the value of a strong national RES to the health of the American economy, environment and national security.
A strong national RES means creating billions of dollars in economic investment and hundreds of thousands of new American jobs. A strong national RES would likely spur renewable energy supported jobs in those states that currently do not have RES targets. The RES will also send a global signal to manufacturers looking to invest in America that we are committed to renewable energy, justifying a long-term investment in innovation, manufacturing, research and development and job training to repower America.
Meaningful near-term RES targets (12% by 2014 and 20% by 2020) are critical to ensure global competitiveness for the U.S. renewable energy industry, and stronger long-term targets (25% by 2025) are needed to attract long-term manufacturing investment and project development. They are also needed to mitigate a flattening or decline in industry-supported jobs that will otherwise occur across industries with the expiration of tax incentives and stimulus-related policies.
