    Webinar Summary:

Southern Company created a complete data-centric design strategy to ensure consistent and accurate asset information transmission from design through operations and maintenance. In this webinar, Tedd Weitzman, engineering analyst for Southern Company, presents the strategy and implementation process Southern company followed to specify business unit information requirements to support the commissioning of capital assets. The company needed a solution to consolidate correlated but disparate design data into a single repository. eB Data Quality Manager was configured to enable Southern Company to ensure design data is consistent with design procedures, standards, and guidelines across engineering disciplines and outsourcing partners.

Accomplished at a cost of $1.7 million, the improved efficiencies could yield estimated savings of up to $4 million. The data quality product associates asset IDs with correlating documents in the document management system and allows data to be shared across departments. It provides access to and validation of project component information for design and operation lifecycles. The first implementation was for the Plant Ratcliffe project in Kemper County, Miss.
