Bilfinger supporting growth of onshore wind power in Eastern Europe

  • Project management and technical supervision for new Kostomłoty onshore wind farm in Poland after services for Szymankowo wind farm for Polenergia S.A.
  • Expansion of onshore wind power business in Poland also includes recently completed project for EDF Renewables
  • More than 240,000 tons of CO2 savings per year

Bilfinger is delivering a range of services for the fast-growing wind power industry in Poland. For Polenergia, Bilfinger is supporting the new build of their 27 MW Kostomłoty onshore wind farm with overall project management, coordination and technical supervision. The industrial services provider had already provided similar services for Poland’s largest private energy group at the Szymankowo wind farm, which went into operation at the end of 2021. Recently, Bilfinger also completed its work on the Górzyca wind farm from EDF Renewables in western Poland. In total, the projects will lead to savings of up to 240,000 tons of CO2 per year in Poland.

“For many of our customers in the energy industry, the expansion of renewable energies is the key on their path to greater sustainability,” says Thomas Schulz, Group CEO of Bilfinger. “We support the construction and maintenance of projects in this area and thus make a decisive contribution to achieving the EU’s climate goals.”

Bilfinger Tebodin is supporting its long-standing customer Polenergia as a contract engineer in the construction of a new wind farm in Kostomłoty, a village close to the Czech and German borders. Bilfinger is responsible for the overall project management, coordination and supervision of the project. In addition to technical consulting and investor supervision, contract engineer services also include the preparation and verification of the correct layout of the foundations for the nine wind turbines as well as for access roads and cables to connect the wind farm to the power grid. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of August 2022. After commissioning in the third quarter of 2022, the wind farm will generate around 82 GWh of green electricity per year, which is equivalent to the annual electricity needs of 41,000 households. This corresponds to savings of up to 71,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Bilfinger had already supported Polenergia as a contract engineer in the new build of the Szymankowo onshore wind farm, which was commissioned in the third quarter of 2021. The wind farm has a capacity of 38 MW generated by eleven turbines. The estimated annual production of 120 GWh, equivalent to the electricity demands of 60,000 households, resulting in emission reductions of up to 104,000 tons of CO2 per year.

“Renewable energy is a key element of the global strategy to reduce CO2 emissions. Given our longstanding relationship with Bilfinger, we are pleased that they are supporting us in the construction of our new projects in Poland with their technical expertise and resilient network,” says Michał Michalski PhD, Polenergia CEO.

Bilfinger Tebodin has recently completed its works for global energy producer EDF Renewables on the onshore wind power farm Górzyca, located in the Polish village of Radowek. Also in this project, a team from Bilfinger Tebodin was responsible for overall project management, coordination and technical supervision. The new wind farm with its twelve 2 MW turbines can produce an average of 80 GWh per year and supply 40,000 households with green energy, offsetting 70,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Bilfinger is a trusted partner to the wind power industry. From planning to engineering and from installation to maintenance, the Group provides all services for onshore as well as offshore wind turbines.
