Press Release

Next generation of Weir control valve designs optimize performance at competitive value

Elland, UK – Weir Valves & Controls UK, part of global engineering firm Weir Group, has enhanced the Blakeborough® cage guided control valve range with the release of the BV590i (Globe) and BV591i (Angle) series. The new designs of cage-guided valves represent a step-change in flow control technology; offering customers process critical control valves at competitive prices.

At first glance the new Blakeborough® valve bodies are unlike any other control valve currently on the market. Conforming to industry standards such as ASME B16.34 and ISA 75.0, the Weir research and development team challenged conventional globe valve designs, exploring innovative new body geometries though extensive computational fluid dynamics and flow testing. As a result the valve bodies offer superior flow capacities within a lightweight design. This means Weir can reduce the offered valve size, while maintaining the valve capacity, ultimately resulting in a saving to end users across different applications.

The trim technology has also undergone significant changes to improve the geometric design, which is now modular, resulting in lower operational costs through spares inventory and the accommodation of additive manufactured cage trims. Solutions which can radically reduce lead times for complex trim components.

Blakeborough® control valves are designed specifically for demanding environments where the ultimate standards of flow control performance and safety are required. Over the years the highly versatile range of Blakeborough® control valves have been configured to meet the diverse requirements of customer processes, and today Weir can support customers with over 14 million variations.

Mike Mannion, Managing Director, Weir Valves and Controls UK, commented:

“Our research and development team developed new Blakeborough solutions because at Weir we believe in proactively addressing the changing technical requirements and challenges faced by our customers.
