Implementing Digital Technologies in Nuclear Utilities
Sponsored by Invensys and hosted by POWER magazine. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss what a nuclear utility should establish and consider when implementing digital technologies in their plant(s).
Digital technologies have been employed in many safety critical industries such as aerospace, pharmaceutical, and chemical. However, nuclear industry implementation of digital technologies has been slow and tenuous. Numerous operating experience events are documented in which plant trips/SCRAMs occurred as a result of defective or deficient digital system implementation. This presentation aims to prevent those issues.

Learn How To Improve Electrical Safety in Coal Handling Areas
Electrical Best Practives Webinar: Case Study of Implementation of Guidelines
Sponsored by ASGCO, United Electric Controls, and Zurich and hosted by POWER. Westar Energy has put the PRB Coal Users’ Group Electrical Best Practices Guideline into effect. This guideline was designed to assist in a greater understanding of electrical best practices and hazardous area classifications as they relate to the use and handling of coal in power plants also known as generating stations.
Westar will share their challenges and results as they put this safe and economical practice to use. The PRB Coal Users Electrical Best Practices Committee created a document that presents methods of applying nationally recognized codes and standards presently in existence and applying them under various conditions in order to demonstrate the need for an inclusive approach.

Automate and Manage your I&C Design Documentation: Increase Your Efficiency using AutoCAD P&ID and Instrument Manager
Are you looking at ways to automate and manage your I&C design documentation?
Most instrumentation projects require the same type of documentation – loops, lists, schedules etc. - but rarely in exactly the same format. Typically, those involved in a project’s design will work independently on constantly evolving P&IDs or Excel files for instrument lists, cable schedules, termination details, and I/O lists. The CAD drafter will then attempt to consolidate this information in drawing format. It can be quite a process for all involved to be working from the same page and to provide accurate and up to date data.
SCADA Systems, an Autodesk development partner for close to 20 years, provides an instrument design and management solution that shares data from AutoCAD’s intelligent P&ID software, AutoCAD P&ID, on an SQL platform to create drawings, datasheets, and reports.

LDAR Compliance Made Easy - Using AutoCAD P&ID to facilitate compliance
The Clean Air Act in the United States requires that operators of petroleum refineries, chemical plants, and many manufacturing facilities develop leak detection and repair (LDAR) programs. Traditionally, most operators have relied on manually intensive processes to manage their LDAR programs and the records required to demonstrate compliance. Even when they follow their LDAR programs diligently, many operators lack confidence in their degree of compliance. This is due to the fact that manual LDAR compliance processes often cannot keep pace with changes that occur at many facilities.
Environmental intellect (Ei), an environmental and safety compliance software provider, has developed a technology that uses intelligent piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to enable more efficient and automated LDAR compliance.
