Voith Signs Contract for Henan Tianchi Pumped Storage Plant

He Nan Province, China (January 16, 2018) — Henan Tianchi Pumped Storage Co., Ltd. (Tianchi PSP) and Voith Hydro Shanghai Co., Ltd. (VHS), in December 2017 signed a contract to purchase equipment at the Henan Tianchi pumped storage plant site. Voith will supply four 300-MW Francis reversible pump turbines and generators and also auxiliary equipment. The power plant will have a total installed capacity of 1,200 MW. The rated head of the plant is 510 meters, and the rated speed of unit is 500 rev / min.

Henan Tianchi pumped storage plant project is intended for energy storage at valley periods to make up for peak periods, frequency and phase regulation, backup for incidents and black start for the power system of the Henan Province. The contract was awarded to Voith because of Voith’s technological advantages in large pumped storage plants and the owner’s trust in Voith pumped storage technology. Currently, Voith has installed more than 200 pumped storage units around the world with a total installed capacity of over 25,000 MW.

According to the contract plan, the  contracted equipment will be completed by December 2020. The first unit will be put into operation by the end of September 2021, and the last unit will commence commercial operation in June  2022.
