NEM supplies first HRSG behind Siemens H-class gas turbine

NEM Energy b.v. (NEM) has been awarded the contract for the supply of a three pressure Benson heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) with reheat for the San Gabriel combined cycle power plant (CCPP). San Gabriel is located in Batangas City in the Philippines, approximately one hundred kilometers south of the capital of Manila. NEM’s customer is Siemens Energy. The owner is First NatGas Power Corp., a 100% owned company of the Philippine independent power producer First Gen Corporation.

NEM’s scope includes the engineering, manufacturing and delivery of the Benson HRSG, which will operate behind an SGT6-8000H gas turbine type. This is the first NEM HRSG operating behind the new Siemens H-class gas turbine. Also worth mentioning is the robustness of the boiler design: the HRSG has high earthquake resistance and will able to cope with high wind velocities.

“NEM is excited and grateful to work together with Siemens in providing First NatGas Power Corp. with NEM’s steam generators that will help secure reliable power generation in the Philippines”, says NEM’s CEO Gerard Van Dijk.

The San Gabriel CCPP will have a capacity of 414 megawatts (MW). With an efficiency of more than 60 (sixty) percent, it will be the most efficient gas-fired power plant in South East Asia. Commissioning is scheduled for March 2016.

According to Siemens data, it is expected that the demand for electricity in the Philippines will almost double from 22 GW of installed capacity to 42 GW by 2030. Due to the high price of natural gas, there is considerable demand for high-efficiency power plants.
