Brian Hunter of We Energies Receives MEA Life Sustaining Award

MEA honors Brian Hunter of We Energies with a 2020 Life Sustaining Award for saving a trapped man from suffocating to death in 2019.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., Oct. 7, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — MEA Energy Association (MEA) is honored to present Brian Hunter, a We Energies utility troubleshooter, with a Life Sustaining Award for saving a man’s life.

Hunter was helping to restore power after a destructive storm in July 2019. As Hunter worked on damaged equipment, he saw a man get pinned by a tree while using a tractor to remove it. “I knew he was in trouble,” said Hunter.

He was indeed in trouble; the tree was across the man’s throat. Hunter jumped on the tractor and put it in reverse, helping to relieve pressure on the man’s neck. He then grabbed his saw and cut the tree, eventually freeing the man. Hunter said the man thanked him for saving his life.

“It is a privilege to bestow this Life Sustaining Award,” said John Gann, MEA Vice President. “These awards serve to highlight the outstanding individuals in the energy industry who rise up when called and make a difference when presented with the opportunity to do so.”

MEA Life Sustaining Awards are presented to individuals from member companies who have saved the life of another. Applications for the MEA Life Sustaining Award are reviewed and approved by the Executive Committee of MEA’s Board of Directors.
