ELECTRIC POWER Conference set for record year

ELECTRIC POWER, the world's most comprehensive conference covering power generation, has been programmed to meet the information needs of power generating companies. Programming is developed under the direction of an industry-based advisory committee comprising approximately 150 members from industry, government, and academia. More than one-third of the members are from gencos.

The program features in-depth topics that cover business, engineering, and plant operations issues. More than 400 speakers and panelists will participate in the program that features 14 conference tracks, two user group meetings, and 12 preconference best practices workshops and tutorials (see box). The North American Electric Reliability Corporation will also colocate its Reliability Standards Workshop at ELECTRIC POWER 2007 on April 30. The latest power industry technologies will be highlighted by approximately 500 exhibitors.

Preconference workshops and tutorials add value

Although the ELECTRIC POWER Conference and user group meetings start on Tuesday, May 1, there is a lot of activity at the convention center on Monday, April 30. A full slate of best practices workshops and tutorials will be held, and the NERC Reliability Standards Workshop will be presented. The workshops will cover the following topics:

Mercury emissions and control at coal-fired plants
Coal-to-liquids technologies: A timely revival
PRB coal plant conversion
Boiler combustion optimization and NOx reduction
How to achieve productivity through planning and scheduling
Advances in multipollutant and CO2 control technologies

Rocky Bleier

On Monday evening, the Power Plant Awards Banquet will recognize the PRB Coal Users' Group Plant of the Year as well as the POWER magazine Plant of the Year and Marmaduke Award winner. The featured speaker at the banquet is Rocky Bleier, former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and Vietnam War hero. His life story is a gripping tale of courage on both the football fields of America and the battlefields of Vietnam.

New this year: Power Plant Manager's Roundtable

A Power Plant Manager's Roundtable will be offered on the afternoon of Monday, April 30—the day before ELECTRIC POWER. Admission is complimentary for plant managers and superintendents. All types of generating stations and fuels will be covered. The format is interactive, and the topics include:
