The new gas units, each 840 MW, will replace two coal units at Plant McDonough-Atkinson, which were retired on Sept. 30, 2011 and Feb. 29, 2012. According to Georgia Power, the new units are expected to help meet expected growth and ensure reliability in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
